Phylogeography and ecological niche modelling of the New Zealand stick insect Clitarchus hookeri white support survival in multiple coastal refugia. Thus, our results suggest that the connection between alternative splicing and differential methylation may be a broadly-conserved mechanism linking alternative phenotype to differential methylation in insects.
